Silvia is a qualified counsellor and a Provisional Member of the New Zealand Christian Counsellors Association.
Good on you for taking the step of exploring whether counselling could work for you.
It takes courage to ask for help.
Someone asked me once what counselling is, and I thought for a minute and said “it is honesty.”
The therapeutic process begins at the point where you say, “actually, this is how it is for me at the moment.” Whatever that is, whatever mix of the good, the bad and the ugly is going on around you,
let’s be honest about it.
In that mix I am most interested in looking out for your strengths.
What keeps you going? What inspires you?
What do you want and how do you see that emerging, even just a little bit, in your life?
Healing comes as you gain a fresh perspective on your past.
Hope grows as you set the path for your future.
My job as your counsellor is to meet you in the here and now to support you and encourage you.

'Conversations' Counselling
... conversations in which you feel fully heard
... personalised professional assessment investing in your wellbeing
... confidence in your values and integrity
... growing your strengths
"I can hear you"
The heart of counselling is a listening relationship. My job is to hear you. This is a particular kind of listening, which listens for your truth which you may not be fully aware of. So in hearing how you are right now I may slow you down and give you tools to listen to yourself.
"I see you with a trained eye"
The professional service of counselling enables you to draw on a wealth of resources. The focus is your wellbeing. Depending on your situation this could include assessing:
- your stress levels and coping strategies (Stress Response)
- your role in relationships and family (Systems)
- how difficult events in the past are affecting you in the present (Trauma)
- experiences of loss (Grief)
- physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing (Mind-Soul-Body)
"You do know what matters to you"
If things feel on top of you at the moment you may have lost sight of your sense of purpose. Counselling will help you connect with your values and step into your future with confidence and integrity.
"You are stronger than you think you are"
Counselling works by reminding you of your strengths as a person. You will grow in your capacity to cope with difficult emotions and function effectively both at home and at work.
