Dramatic Readings
Bring scripture to life with dramatic readings.
Some of these are 'straight' scripture; others are re-worked but staying true to the text.

Jesus walked on water John 6:16-21
The Bible is full of amazing stories about Jesus. One of the most amazing is this story; it was so amazing the disciples could hardly believe it themselves, even while it was happening. This story happens in the dead of night, in the darkest hour. This story happens on a lake. It is a dark, wet story.
This drama needs no rehearsal. You need someone to act out being Jesus, a long piece of blue fabric for the lake & a couple of people to hold it, and a table on its side for the boat. It worked out far better than I expected, and created lots of laughter, especially if Jesus hams it up a bit!

A narrative retelling of Acts 3:1-16
Peter heals the blind beggar
Well, this particular day started out normal enough. We were just kneeling for afternoon prayer when we were distracted by shouting. We tried to ignore it but it got louder, and people started whispering, and I overheard something about ‘Peter’, so I jumped up and ran outside to see what was going on. ...
... with a sermon on healing.

“Do I belong?” A Dramatic Reading of Ephesians 2:11-22
In three voices plus congregational response.
Reader 1 is at the lecturn.
Reader 2 begins up in the pulpit (or somewhere up the front of the church) and slowly steps closer to Reader 3.
Reader 3 starts at the back of the church and walks toward the front during the reading, so that by the last verse the 2 are standing side by side.
Reader 1 Remember a time when you were without Christ,
aliens to the covenant of promise,
when you had no hope,
when for you the world was empty of God.
Christ is our peace.
All: We are one in Christ.

The dramatic conversion of Saul: Acts 9
The year is 36. For the past 3 years the followers of Jesus had been growing in number, in Jerusalem and further afield. Saul was a young man, newly trained as a Pharisee, full of passion for the Jewish faith. He saw the Way of Jesus as a poisonous threat and threw all his energy into fighting it.
