Blessings written by Silvia Purdie

The peace of God be yours
The blessing of God be upon you and go with you
The authority of God be over you and around you
The grace of God be in you and freely given by you
The peace of God be yours, this day and every day. Amen

As you are called
As you are known and loved by Jesus Christ,
so you are called.
As you are called by God
so you are empowered by his Spirit.
As you are empowered so you are sent,
to love and to call others in his name.
Go in the peace of God,
this day and the whole year through.

A Spring Blessing
May the sap rise in your heart
as the Spirit of Jesus lives within you.
May you flower bravely
with gifts you are yet to discover.
May you know the great delight God has in you
May others see in your eyes and in your smile
the beauty of Christ’s love.
Amen

The Lord, the Lord, merciful and gracious
The Lord, the Lord, merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love for the thousandth generation!
In the name of God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, go now to live and serve, in the power of his Spirit, in the mighty covenant of grace,
Go in peace. Amen

Related to issues of work and war
In all our ways we honour you, Lord of all
In all our achievements we give you the credit
In all our struggles we stand in your victory alone
We relinquish our pride, our need to attack and defend,
And we stand in your victory, Jesus Christ, who is our peace.
Come Lord Jesus bring your peace, send us out in peace. Amen.

Gifts of hope, joy and love
May Jesus Christ, born of Mary, bless you today and every day
May God’s gifts of hope, joy and love grow in you and go with you
And may deep peace carry you through all that lies ahead.
Amen
Christ, born of Mary
May the blessing of Jesus Christ, born of Mary,
be with you and go with you.
May the warmth, beauty and compassion of God go with you,
and flow through you to each person you meet.
May the peace of God settle on you and sustain you each day.

Go with a lightness
Go with a lightness in your step, for joy is given to you
Go with an open heart and a generous spirit, for you are indeed blessed
Go to love and to serve, as you have been loved and served
Go in the peace of God that passes all understanding
this day and every day
Amen.

Bless you and keep you
May the grace of God that knows us through and through
bless you and keep you.
May the love of God that come to us in Jesus Christ,
bless you and keep you.
May the peace of God that passes all understanding
bless you and keep you.

Father of all mercy
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you
The peace of the Father of all mercy be with you
The companionship of the Holy Spirit be with you
This day and every day. Go in peace. Amen.

Lit from within
We go giving thanks for the gift of the Spirit of God
We go lit from within by the great love of Christ
We go in peace, and God goes with us.

Dwell in you richly
May the Word of God dwell in you richly
bearing a harvest of truth in your life.
May the Glory of God shine in you brightly
revealing Christ in simple ways in every day.
May the Peace of God deepen in you gently
calming your fears and lighting your way.

Bible Blessings

2 Peter 1:2-3
May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, for God’s divine power has given you everything you need for a life spent sharing in God’s own nature, called by God’s own glory and goodness. Amen

Jude 24-25:
To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

Blessings for Weddings

A Kiwi Wedding Blessing

May your hearts grow together
like the branches of a kauri tree.
May your love be deep and wide as the ocean,
and your joy be as high as the mighty mountains.
May you be at home with each other wherever you are,
and forgive each other every day.
May success unfold in your work
like the tree fern opens to the sun,
and kindness blossom in your home.
May peace sing clear and sweet in your marriage, like a bellbird by a lake.
God bless you and keep you always.
Ma te Atua korua e manaaki.
Go now and through all the years,
in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
the almighty love of God our Father
and the renewing power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Irish Marriage Blessing

May God be with you and bless you.
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortunes
and rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
from this day forward.

An Irish blessing:
The guarding of the Father of life be on you,
The guarding of loving Christ be on you,
The guarding of Holy Spirit be on you

As you go:
Thank you for sharing in this beautiful occasion
and witnessing this important moment in the lives of these two families
and these two delightful people
Have an excellent time for the rest of the day
- a true celebration.
As you go, go enriched in your own relating with others
May you find greater patience and kindness in your loving
and know the deep joy that comes only
from giving ourselves for the good of others.
May you go surrounded with the grace and goodness of God
and blessed by peace.
Amen.

Blessings for Funerals

This is a sad day  (for a funeral)
This is a sad day, but we cling to the possibility of hope
We hurt today, but we hurt willingly for that is the cost of loving
Grief sucks in the light, but we choose to hold on to each other
for death is part of life, and loss makes space for new beginnings.
As you go, go in the power of the Holy Spirit,
the Spirit of Jesus Christ, who died for you and for me.
Walk one step at a time, one day at a time, knowing that God is with you, in this and in all things.
Go in peace. Amen.

And so, go now
And so, go now;
hold on to what you know to be true
choose to love when loving is hard
take care of fragile things, go gently
honour your sorrow, but lightly
take courage in the midst of pain
whenever you can, laugh
wherever you can, praise
and hope will meet you once again
and joy will find you on the way.
Go in peace, in the name of God
Father, Son and Holy Spirit
now and forevermore, amen.

Go with a lightness
Go with a lightness in your step, for joy is given to you
Go with an open heart and a generous spirit, for you are indeed blessed
Go to love and to serve, as you have been loved and served
Go in the peace of God that passes all understanding
this day and every day
Amen.
