Psalm 83: The enemies of Israel
(Matthew 5:43-44)
Jesus said:
“It’s easy to love your friends and hate your enemies. Anyone can do that! But I say to you, Love your enemies
and pray for those who are out to get you.”
It’s easy for us to say. No one is throwing rocks at us
let alone hand grenades and bombs.
No one has sworn to destroy us, here in lovely NZ.
But many many people have sworn to destroy Israel.
The nations that surround Israel made a promise together
to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.
God in your anger, make the enemies of Israel
crumble and blow away in the wind
like the dust of the desert.
Set a fire through them until they burn with shame.
God in your mercy, bless the enemies of Israel.
Bless their leaders and their families with all good things.
Bless them with peace and justice,
until all the world can see that you are God Most High. Amen.
