The power and presence of the Holy Spirit
A Seagull Psalm
Here I am again, Lord
perched here
waiting for something to happen.
I'm a bit cross, a bit teary.
The troubles of this life
have ruffled my feathers.
I'm tired of being earth-bound.
I hear the whisper of air
and lift my face to your freshness.
Strength returns, and hope
as breeze flows beneath me.
One leap
wings reach for sky
and I am flying!
I was born for this
to move with you
to turn and rise
on the breath of God.
Here I am again, Lord
perched here
waiting for something to happen.
I'm a bit cross, a bit teary.
The troubles of this life
have ruffled my feathers.
I'm tired of being earth-bound.
I hear the whisper of air
and lift my face to your freshness.
Strength returns, and hope
as breeze flows beneath me.
One leap
wings reach for sky
and I am flying!
I was born for this
to move with you
to turn and rise
on the breath of God.
A Prayer of Abandonment - Charles de Foucauld
Father,
I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you:
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me,
and in all your creatures -
I wish no more than this, O Lord.
Into your hands I commend my soul:
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands without reserve,
and with boundless confidence,
for you are my Father.
Father,
I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.
"You were with me" - A Prayer of St Augustine
Late have I loved you, O beauty ever ancient, ever new!
Late have I loved you
and behold, you were within, and I without,
and without I sought you.
And deformed, I ran after those forms of beauty you have made.
You were with me but I was not with you
those things held me back from you
things whose only being was to be in you.
You called; you cried; and you broke through my deafness.
You flashed; you shone; and you chased away my blindness.
You became fragrant; and I inhaled and sighed for you.
I tasted, and now hunger and thirst for you.
You touched me; and I burned for your embrace.
