‘This Sacred Moment’: a reflection on pastoral care
In this moment I will be present for this person in front of me
whom the Spirit has given me to care for
and to make of this conversation a sacred space.
I will be true to who I am
but I will be more interested in who you are.
I will be curious about how you are
so that you might perhaps know the presence of God with you in that.
I will listen more than I speak.
I will listen for what you are interested in.
I will affirm you and praise you.
I will wait while you search for words.
I know that I am amazing, loved, unique and special
and so I don’t need you to like me, affirm me, or even be interested in me.
I know that Jesus Christ is Lord, and at work in me and in this moment
and so I don’t need to solve problems, give solutions or fix things
but I choose to trust you, this amazing, loved, unique and special person,
to grow a little in this moment
and to find your own path through whatever you face
as I too might grow
by meeting my dear friend Jesus again
in you.
