Psalm 74: Destruction and persecution
 

O God, don’t throw away the church!
Remember us, your people -
we need you now more than ever!
Your church is being attacked,
holy places are burned to the ground
and people are arrested for their faith.
Even here in this ‘Christian’ country
churches are destroyed by earthquake or fire,
or sold off when no one comes anymore.
Our society is embarrassed by the cross.
Come on, Lord, don’t hold back!
Yours is the mighty earth-making power!
Yours are the oceans, the rivers and the lands
Yours are the days and nights, winters and summers.
Don’t let your name be spat on!
Come to the help of the poor and needy.
Rise up O God, and raise up your people!
