Psalm 6: Worn with weeping
(Suitable for use in worship as ‘Prayers for Others’, possibly with one person reading the Psalm verses (in italics) and another reading the prayers. Numbers refer to verse numbers in Psalm 6.) Loving Lord, hear us as we pray for those in need. Gracious Spirit, be present in our love and hope, our joy and pain. O Lord, do not punish me in your anger 1 but be gracious to me for my bones shake with fear, 2 my soul is struck with terror. 3 Almighty God, we pray for those who live in fear; those in danger, those in anxiety, those trapped in abuse. We call on you as strong defender, rock and refuge. Bring your peace, powerful peace. How long, O Lord, how long? 3 Come, Lord, save my life, your steadfast love is my only hope. 4 Living God, we pray for those who are sick. Bring strength through pain, patience though weakness, bring healing, Lord. I am exhausted. Every night my pillow is drenched with my tears. 5 My eyes ache with grief. 6 Gentle God, we pray for those who mourn. Wrap them in your tender mercy. May we find new hope through all that grieves us. Be gone, all that attacks and undermines me, be gone! The Lord has heard the sound of my weeping 8 The Lord has heard my cry for help The Lord embraces my prayer. 9 I will stand free, free from fear, free from shame, free from loneliness. 10 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen Romans 7:25 |
